Two years ago, I was living out of my friend’s basement suite after a heart wrenching breakup. The breakup was my choice as I trusted my gut, and knew I deserved and was meant for so much more.
I find when you make these life changing decisions, the universe seems to test your decision and strength. Within the months after the break up as I was trying to get my footing as a newly single lady and make it on my own.
During this time I was dealing with hate messages from my ex, my car was broken into, the sewage backed up in the basement suite, wet concrete poured through the ceiling on all my belongings (they were doing renovations upstairs, which meant loud construction noises), my car got flat tires (three to be exact), identity theft leading to credit card fraud, I got into a car accident, there was mold in the sub floor which destroyed my shoes (devastating), and the adorable baby living upstairs gave me the stomach flu, which was a week of me on the toilet trying to stay hydrated.
Through all of this, I can honestly say I was filled with happiness. In my heart I knew, no matter what the universe tried to throw at me, I was doing the right thing!
When the universe tests you, don’t take it as a sign that you didn’t make the right decision, know that this test is to make you stronger in the decision you have made. Take it as a sign that you've made the right decision.
One of my goals through this tumultuous time was to find and purchase a space of my own. Being an entrepreneur, and at the time barely scraping by the poverty line from an income standpoint, this was ambitious to say the least.
When I finally did find a place, I brought some of my good friends to see it. They told me to run; it was horrible, dingy, and they couldn’t see the potential.
When faced with this type of mindset, I do typically run, I run from the people trying to hold me back, the ones who do not see the opportunity. After using three banks and phoning a dear friend in the banking world to finally get approved, I bought the place! I was so proud!
I completely renovated the entire space and let me tell you, IT IS FABULOUS! I absolutely LOVE my space, and am grateful for all that I endured to get it.
Today, I put a 20% lump payment towards my mortgage and set a goal to have it completely paid off before it comes time to renew in the next three years.
The decisions and positive mindset, when faced with obstacles, are what helped me get where I am today. When the universe starts to test you, keep the following in mind:
YOU'VE MADE THE RIGHT DECISION
Remember, the tests are designed to make you stronger in your decision. For every obstacle that pops up, SMILE, remind yourself that this is the universe’s way of telling you, you’re on the right track. It just needs to test you to make sure you are ready for what is to come.
YOUR WHY
When you are feeling down, think about the reason you've made this decision. Is it because you weren’t fulfilled in your past relationship, or job, or City? Remembering your why will help you push through the obstacles to the wonderfulness that will come as a result of your perseverance.
SET NEW GOALS
I find that after making a life changing decision, you've put yourself in the direction you want to go. Taking the time to set new SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Timely) goals to continue to move towards, will keep you focused as you dip, dive and dodge through the universe’s obstacle course.
DON’T QUIT
Never give up! Never Settle! Two wise statements my dear old Dad ingrained into me. When you are on the path to your greatness, regardless of the obstacles, keep on going! You are strong and capable and you will get through this. I know it because I have been there and survived it. You will survive this and be better for it!
SUPPORT SYSTEM
No matter where you are in the obstacle course of life, a support system is your greatest asset. It’s okay to lean on them in these difficult times, or give me a call and we can work together to get you operating at your greatest potential!
Book a clarity call to see if I can help.
